Get your bacon fix with Chef Garth’s recipe for French Toast with bacon, creamy Camembert cheese and thick maple syrup, one of the most popular dishes on our Breakfast Menu at Catharina’s.
160ml (2\3 cup) milk
3tsp castor sugar
4 thick slices white bread or 2 English muffins, halved
8 rashers back bacon
250g Camembert cheese
Maple syrup to serve
Preheat oven at 220 degrees celcius. Line a baking tray with non stick baking paper.
Lightly whisk eggs in a bowl. Add milk and sugar, and stir to combine. Melt butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Dip bread in the egg mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes each side or until golden. Transfer to the baking tray.
Wipe the pan clean. Heat over medium- high heat. Add bacon and cook for 2-3 minutes each side or until crispy.
Layer the bacon on the toasts and top with sliced camembert. Cook in the oven for a couple of minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
Divide toast among serving plates and pour over maple syrup.
