Garth Almazan was born and bred in Cape Town. His earliest memories of food are of the delicious, spicy seafood starters that his Philippino father used to cook for the family. It was this early taste experience that has been a major inspiration for him. Garth has a multifaceted, international food background, presenting and highlighting South African cuisine in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Ireland where he competed in various food festivals and competitions. He has met and cooked for some of the best in the world. His philosophy on food and cooking is to use the freshest available produce and to keep everything he does 'simple'.
Comprising of over 100 carefully selected South African wines and a small but relevant international offering, the award winning winelist at Catharina's restaurant offers choice to the connoisseur and casual sipper alike.
We've made an effort to offer wines that represent the categories that they are listed in, while also being individual and full of character. Most grape varieties and prominent wine growing regions are represented – including Constantia of course – from the most famous producers, to hard-to-get cult wines and some lesser known gems from smaller producers, who create wines with passion and integrity.
