Golf Rules

In order to ensure that you have an enjoyable round of golf at the Steenberg Golf Club, we would like to draw your attention to some of the rules and regulations governing play and conduct on the course at all times.

Bookings:
·    A list of players (Initial and surname), in their 4-ball order, with tee off times and official handicaps, must be forwarded to the Steenberg Golf Club no later than 48 Hours prior to the day of play.
·    Golfers must be on the tee 10 minutes before their tee-off time.
·    Steenberg Golf Club reserves the right to amend tee-off times, if necessary with reasonable notice
·    Green Fees and cart hire quoted are subject to increase between the date of confirmation and date of play.

On Course:
·    Alcohol is STRICTLY prohibited during play on the golf course.
·    Sandbags with sand are compulsory to fill all divots
·    Fix all pitch marks on greens
·    All bunker rates are to be left in the bunker facing the green
·    There is a compulsory 10 minute halfway house stop between nines
·    Please keep up to the 4 ball in front of you at all times
·    One Caddie per visiting 4 ball is compulsory
·    No cellular/Mobile telephones are allowed on course/driving range/clubhouse all calls should be taken in the parking area or locker room.


N.B.
It is a condition of play that all golfers must be affiliated to a registered Golf Club and must have an official handicap.  One caddie per four ball is compulsory (if available).

Dress Regulations – Golf Course & Driving Range:
The following is regarded as acceptable dress on the course and driving range:

·    Only Tailored shorts (no drawstrings) are allowed
·    All ankle-length socks must be golf socks and secret socks are not permitted
·    Dress in the Clubhouse and bar areas is smart casual
·    Open neck shirts must have collars and must be tucked in at all times.
·    Only soft spike or rubber soled golf shoes are permitted on the golf course and driving range. The fitting of soft spikes is offered at a nominal fee and undertaken at the shoe owner’s risk.
·    Juniors and players with a medical certificate are allowed to wear tennis or running shoes.
·    The wearing of golfing shorts after 18h00 is not permitted in the bars and restaurant

Maximum Length of Time per Round:

·    Summer season (month to month):
o    2 Ball 3 hours 30 minutes
o    2/3 Ball 3 hours 45 minutes
o    3/4 Ball 4 hours 20 minutes

·    Winter season (month to month):
o    2 Ball 3 hours 20 minutes
o    2/3 Ball 3 hours 40 minutes
o    3/4 Ball 4 hours 10 minutes

Speed of Play:
·    It is the duty of every golfer to keep up with the match in front of them, and NOT just ahead of the one behind.
·    If a game fails to keep its pace on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it MUST request the game following to pass, and the game following must play through if by doing so the speed on the course can be improved.
·    Course Marshals are on duty to monitor the speed of play.
·    If a group loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, the group would be asked by the Course Marshals to improve their speed of play. If the group still fails to catch up with the players in front after repeated  warnings by the Course Marshals, the said group may be asked by the Course Marshals to skip one hole so as to keep their place on the course.
