of love’

Couples celebrating their love this
Valentine’s Day are spoiled for choice
with three seductive menus featuring
traditional ‘foods of love’ to be served
up by Chef Garth Almazan at Catharina’s.
The Catharina’s Seafood Platter for Two
(R1700 for two people) offers a medley
of decadent dishes such as West Coast
Mussels and Green Curry Sauce; and a
heavenly Chocolate and Jasmine Cremeux,
with Rose Petal Ice Cream and Hot Red
Berry Espuma. With dishes like the
Tempura Oyster; and a Blueberry ‘Sorbet
of Love’; the Gourmet Menu (R850 per
person / R1150 with wine pairing) is
designed to tempt and please the palate,
while exotic dishes such as a Tempura
Fried Mushroom Maki with Asian slaw and
Thai dressing on the Vegetarian Menu
(R750 per person / R1050 with wine
pairing) will appeal to those opting for
a meat-free choice. |

Chef Brad Ball will present a quirky
event that offers a refreshing twist to
the traditional Valentine’s Day
celebration.
Aimed at single folk who
love dining out, rather than romantic
couples, his Tapas Long Table of Friends
event is set to be a relaxed,
early-evening rendezvous of great
conversation and gourmet cuisine.
At
R200 per guest, this is an opportunity
for diners to taste their way through
his new traditional Spanish Tapas Menu,
with a glass of delicious Steenberg 1682
‘bubbly’ to set the mood.
Guests may
book their seat at one of two ‘Long
Table’ sittings, each catering for 10
diners, one at 17:30 and the other at

YOLANDE HIGGINS (HOUSEKEEPING TEAM LEADER)
25-Year old Yolande Higgins is our competent
Housekeeping Team Leader, who heads up a
sterling team of Room Attendants to ensure that
every aspect of each guest room meets
world-class standards.
This Cape Town-born
mother of two joined Steenberg in October 2007
as a Room Attendant, and has since impressed the
management team with her attention to detail and
her positive approach. In April 2010 she was
promoted to Housekeeping Team Leader, a
portfolio she manages with an eagle eye.
We are proud to have Yolande at the helm of
Housekeeping - she is an invaluable asset to the
team.

HARVEST NEWS
Harvest season has kicked off in earnest now
with report of the first fruit which has just
come in - a crop of Chardonnay destined for this
year’s vintage of the Steenberg 1682 Methode Cap
Classique. The quality is looking great!
Together with his team, JD will be spending the
next few months crushing, pressing and racking,
to ensure that this year’s wines live up to the
award-winning Steenberg standards. |

COMINGS AND GOINGS
We welcome Chloe Canderle as our new
Wine Club Assistant, and bid a fond
farewell to Zelda Petrus, who has been
part of the Steenberg Winery family for
over ten years. She will be moving over
to the (soon-to-open) ‘Gorgeous By
Graham Beck’ Champagne Bar at the
Steenberg Hotel, and we will miss her
vibrant energy and ready smile.
Chantelle Swanepoel will be moving over
to the Tasting Room as our new Cellar
Door Ambassador. We know she will be

HMS Echo Bordeaux Blend 2010
We released the latest addition to our
HMS Range in January - the HMS Echo
Bordeaux Blend 2010. This delicious red
wine is undeniably elegant, with flavours of blackcurrant and aniseed on
the nose, offset by hints of dark
chocolate and cigar box. Smooth and
voluptuous on the palate, its flavours
of dark chocolate, cassis and cedar oak
leave a delicious aftertaste.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS
CONCERT
Our open-air Christmas Carols Concert held on
the lawns in front of the hotel in December was
a resounding success. Some 900 people packed
picnic baskets and blankets and headed out to
our corner of the valley, to enjoy an evening of
song with talented soprano Janelle Visagie and
tenor Gareth Witten, along with the superb Cape
Town String Ensemble. As always the highlight of
the evening was the magical candlelit sing-along
to traditional Christmas Carols, with everyone
joining in whole-heartedly.
