As the last rays of summer cast their dappled
shadows across the Constantia Valley, for many of us, thoughts turn to
the simpler things in life - long, lazy days of leisure, the company of
good friends and family, ‘time out’ from the daily drudge
in a magical setting.
Celebrate this special time of year with some welcome ‘time
out’ in the luxurious surrounds of our gracious hotel, surrounded
by breathtaking vistas of rolling vineyards and the valley beyond.
The oldest farm in the Constantia Valley,
Steenberg is steeped in history and tradition, and we proudly offer a winelands getaway à la difference, at our
historical Manor House. Here you may enjoy an authentic overnight stay
in a National Monument, with ‘villa style’ accommodation
that is a gracious blend of ‘olde
world’ charm and modern conveniences, just 20 minutes from the
city centre.
We firmly adhere to the concept of a weekend that
stretches over three sublime days of relaxation and pleasure, as the
ideal way to revive your spirit and break with routine. So much so,
that we’ve created the special ‘Long Live the 3 Day
Weekend’ package to celebrate this novel idea.
We are also delighted to announce that our informal
dining restaurant, Bistro Sixteen82, launched with aplomb late last
year, is one of only 19 restaurants selected to participate in this
year’s ‘Taste of Cape Town’ festival. Be sure to
visit their stand for tastings of Chef Brad Ball’s delicious
signature dishes, paired with the best of the Steenberg Vineyards wine
selection.
Bon Appetit and Salute!

Our vineyards are abuzz with activity
of the annual Harvest, and this year’s harvest has benefited
from the cool summer weather and moderate wind conditions. According
to winemaker JD Pretorius, with a bit of luck, and, of course,
combined with his skill, hard work and patience, the 2010 vintage
promises to be a good one!

STEENBERG CELLAR DOOR SPECIAL (MARCH
2010)
H.M.S. Rattlesnake Sauvignon Blanc 2009,
priced at just R64 a bottle. With its full rich palate and a strong
finish opening into tropical notes as it warms up, this wine is
best served a touch warmer than usual. The taste will really come
alive in the next five years, so it’s well worth tucking away
a couple of bottles in your cellar to open up during a memorable
occasion.
Great news is that the popular Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc Reserve
is back again this year, released as part of the 2009 vintage. A
firm favourite, it is deliciously crisp
and light on the palate, with lovely tropical notes of litchi and
guava on the nose, fading into green pepper and asparagus as it
opens up, and a firm and lingering aftertaste.
The Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc
Reserve 2009 will be available from 1 March, onwards, together
with the Semillon 2009 at R180 per bottle each, from the
cellar door.
