Whether an end-of-year Christmas celebration for your staff, a family festive season get-together, or a romantic Christmas Eve dinner for two, we offer a delectable menu option, to suit the occasion.

 

The imminent opening of our innovative new cellar door restaurant Bistro 1682, together with the Steenberg Winery, Wine Tasting Bar and Tasting Lounge, will take place on 13 November. Where better to celebrate, than in this picturesque corner of our working wine estate, with its spectacular views across the vineyards and over the Constantia Valley?

The inaugural Christmas Lunch menu prepared by Executive Chef of Bistro 1682, Brad Ball boasts a selection of dishes that are quite simply a taste sensation, served in a stylish, yet informal environment.

  
Bistro 1682 is a daytime venue, and will be closing at 19h00 on Christmas Eve (24 December) and on New Year’s Eve (31 December).

 
Diners seeking a ‘pre-party’ stop-over on New Year’s Eve, are however invited to pop in late-afternoon or at sunset to savour small tasting portions of select dishes from the Tapas menu.

NEWSFLASH!!

From the 4th of November, the Tasting Room at Steenberg will operate from the newly renovated winery, which together with Bistro 1682, the Wine Tasting Bar and the Tasting Lounge, completes our multi-sensory wine destination at the foothills of the Steenberg Mountain.

  

 

INTRODUCING BISTRO 1682

  

With the opening of Bistro 1682 on the 13th of November, the excitement on the estate is palpable. Together with the Steenberg Winery, Wine Tasting Bar and Tasting Lounge, Bistro 1682 forms part of a new multi-sensory food and wine destination, unlike any other.

   

With ‘service’ being the operative buzzword, Executive Chef Brad Ball has been hard at work training the world-class team here, while creating interesting, healthy and delicious dishes, together with Head Chef Brendan November and Pastry Chef Monique Meyer.

  
Perfectly complementing Catharina’s, our fine dining restaurant, Bistro 1682 will offer an interactive, lighter dining experience, featuring counter seating and interesting, healthy and delicious raw cuisine such as sashimi, gravadlax, ceviche, carpaccios, oysters and tartars. Dishes will be freshly prepared on order by designated Chefs.

  
  

DYNAMIC YOUNG FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER APPOINTED AT BISTRO 1682

  

31-year old Jurgen Welp has been appointed Front of House Manager at Bistro 1682, where he will form an integral part of the dynamic management team.

  

As the welcoming ‘face’ of the new cellar door restaurant, he will oversee the front of house team, ensuring that guests are impeccably taken care of.

  

Jurgen, who served as restaurant manager at the elegantly timeless Buitenverwachting Restaurant at Buitenverwachting Wine Estate in Constantia for the past eight years, is eager to make his mark as part of the founding team at Bistro 1682.

COLOURFUL CREATION ADORNS GATE BLOCK

 
Steenberg Farm Manager Johann de Swardt’s decision to plant a selection of colourful ground cover at The Gate Block at the entrance to Steenberg’s South Gate, is now bearing fruit, so to speak.

  

This entrancing photo shows the vibrant result of his spur-of-the-moment action.

  

A brilliant burst of colour now greets guests and staff entering at the South Gate. What a pleasure!

Celebrate the festive season with Christmas Carols at Steenberg, featuring well-known jazz and Afro-pop singer Judith Sephuma, together with Gareth Witten and the Steenberg Choir.
  
In 1999 Judith Sephuma won the ‘Best Jazz Vocalist’ award at the Old Mutual Jazz Into The Future competition, and her debut album A Cry, A Smile, A Dance was critically acclaimed, later followed by New Beginnings.
