CATHARINA’S SUMMER LUNCH AND DESSERT MENUS
Summer dining at Catharina’s marries mouth
watering cuisine and fine wines with the
tranquil surrounds of our working wine farm, and
breathtaking views of the vineyards and the
Constantia Valley.
Chef Garth Almazan has introduced his new á la
carte Summer Lunch menu, as well as a new
Summer
Dessert menu, brimming with a delicious
selection of gourmet creations to tempt the most
discerning palate and satisfy the sweetest
tooth.
Click here for Catharina’s Summer Lunch and Summer Dessert
Menus
Catharina’s new Summer Lunch menu offers a fresh
and fragrant selection of dishes bursting with flavour and colour. Starters include vegetarian
choices such as the Endive Salad with avocado,
pink grapefruit, candied walnuts and simply
to-die-for gorgonzola chive dressing; and for
meat lovers the Duck Leg Roulade with dried
fruit, liver mousse, Parma ham, watercress, port
reduction and crusty ciabatta toast; while main
courses such as the Springbok Leg Pappardelle
with tomato, barley, extra virgin olive oil and
parmesan will melt all resistance. The Brulee 4
Ways dessert with its mouth watering blend of frangelico, cardamom, caramel and strawberry is
a taste sensation rivalled only by the decadent
Dark Chocolate Fondant with chilli and cashew
nut parfait, laced with macerated strawberries.
|
 |
For those with a penchant for a sweet treat, the
newly introduced Summer Dessert menu offers a
choice of delights such as the traditional
French Gateau Basque filled with cherry parfait,
candied apricots and cherry nage; and a superbly
constructed Strawberry Mille Feuille garnished
with balsamic, mascarpone baked Alaska, mango
purée and white chocolate foam. A palate
pleasing range of farmstead cheeses, served as a
choice of three or five cheeses, accompanied by
cranberry rye melba, ‘konfyt’ and grissini
sticks are perfectly complemented by a superb
selection of dessert wines, muscadels, sherries,
brandies and cognacs from some of South Africa’s
leading wineries.
If this is not enough ‘raison d'être’ to spur a
visit to Catharina’s, then perhaps we can entice
you with views that simply take your breathe
away? |

THE STEENBERG CADIZ CLASSIC RAISES R500 000 FOR CHARITY
This month we defer our virtual tour of the
Steenberg Golf Estate to bring you news of the
successful Steenberg Cadiz Classic which raised
R500 000 for charity this year.
Steenberg Cadiz Classic Golf Tournament 2010
The week-long Steenberg Cadiz Classic golf
tournament which ended on Sunday 7 November
brought together 1 200 golfers and raised a
whopping R500 000 for local charities, including
the Westlake Community Centre, TEARS, SARDA, The
Haemophilia Foundation, The Steenberg Clinic and
the Steenberg Caddy Programme.
100% of the money raised goes straight to these
deserving charities, which we know will put it
to good use.

We extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all who
participated, and to the team at the Steenberg
Golf Estate who ensured that all ran smoothly.

XOLELWA NYEZI, HOUSEKEEPING SHIFT LEADER
Xolelwa Nyezi is the immaculately groomed
Housekeeping Shift Leader at the Steenberg
Hotel. Together with her efficient team she
ensures that guests at the hotel are ensured of
five star service, comfort and luxury in both
their rooms and suites, as well as in all public
areas of the hotel - no matter the hour of day
or night.
|
33-Year old Xolelwa manages a team of 14 Room
Attendants at the Steenberg Hotel. Under her
smooth watch the housekeeping team ensures that
guest rooms are always impeccable, and that the
service provided maintains the high standards of
cleanliness and order for which Steenberg Hotel
is renowned. Moreover, she vigilantly pays heed
that they work as unobtrusively as possible,
while being on-hand to attend to guests’ needs.
She joined the team at Steenberg in February
2006 as a Room Attendant, and this was also her
very first taste of working in the hospitality
industry. Her work ethic, excellent
interpersonal skills and efficiency caught the
eye of the management team who promoted her to
Shift Leader in 2009.
Born in Umtata in the Eastern Cape and schooled
at St John’s College, she matriculated in
1999, and moved to Cape Town to study Marketing
Management thereafter. Due to financial
constraints she gave up her studies to forge a
career for herself and was employed by Post Net
for some years before joining Steenberg. With
her wise and willing outlook on life and a work
ethic based on always going the extra mile to
meet guests’ expectations, Xolelwa is a shining
example to all who work with her. We are proud
to have her on the Steenberg team.
